Kuala Lumpur Int. Airport
Or Kuala Lumpur International airport..., KLIA is history in the making... a RM 9 billion history to be exact. Imagined and crafted out of sheer creativy of Japanese renowned architect-philospher Dr. Kisho Kurukawa, the KLIA is a creation that astounds professionals worldwide through the idea of metaphorism.
The hyperbolic paraboliod elements, so apparent as one arrives into the departure terminal are powerful and mesmerizing serves as an great icon for would be travellers about to embark on their respective journeys.
The roof structure is really something that you'd have to see it personally to be appreciated. From granite floor finishes to granite conical columns, one can be amazed by the fluidity that captures the imagination. A really work of art through Malaysian standards and thriumphantly at that, every detail have been thoroughly thought out and catered for with sheer diligence.
The signage and graphics are astoundingly comfortable to the eye, especially to any passenger who's been on flight for more than 14 hours. What about the forested lanscape. That is another work of art. Emmbedded inside the airport, much of the scenery is awarded to FRIM (Forest Researh Institute of Malaysia) together with KLIA Berhad for their planning and professionalism. The plantation planted do not bear any edible friuts, unfortunately for birds, but fortunately for us because the birds poses a hazard to our flight paths. The micro climate in which such mature trees can survive are also taken into consideration, bearing in mind the reflected heat emitted by the glass panes may upset the ideal humidity and light intensity for actual rainforest scenario.
For visitors, there is an observation
gallery at the centre of the main terminal building (landslide) which has
its shortcomings. The space rather small, taking into account the Malaysian
formality of bronging families and children to gaze the parked planes.
More importantly, the eye level is ovstructed by a horizontal mullion beam
that forms part of the envelope glazing structure.
